Privacy Policy
What we collect when you use Nearo, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. Plain English, no dark patterns.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Nearo collects, why, and what you can do about it. Nearo is operated by Anhui Zhigang Network Technology Co., Ltd. By using the Service you agree to this Policy.
Information we collect
We collect personal information in three ways: you give it to us, we measure it as you use the Service, and we receive it from third parties.
Information you give us directly
- Account information: your username, date of birth, email address or phone number, and the password you set.
- Interests: the interest tags you add to your profile. These organise Discovery, so they are the information the Service relies on most to show your posts to people who care about the same things.
- Profile content: your display name, handle, avatar, and any bio text you choose to add.
- Posts and comments: the photos you upload, the text you write with them, and the comments and replies you leave on other people's posts.
- Support enquiries: when you contact us, we keep the messages you send and our responses.
- Preferences: notification settings and other choices you configure.
Photo metadata
Location and camera metadata embedded in your photos (EXIF) is stripped when you upload them. We do not store it and it is never attached to the copy other people see. If a photo you upload contains GPS coordinates written by your camera, those coordinates do not reach our servers as part of the published image.
Information collected automatically
- Device information: device model, operating system version, language, time zone, mobile network operator, app version, your device's User-Agent string, and a device identifier — the Android ID (SSAID) on Android, or the Identifier for Vendor (IDFV) on iOS. We do not collect the iOS Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA).
- Usage data: screens you view, features you tap, interests you add or remove, posts you open, sessions, error reports, and performance metrics.
- Cookies and similar technologies: on the web, we use cookies for authentication and analytics. The mobile app uses equivalent local storage.
Location
We do not collect precise or coarse location data. Nearo has no distance-based feature: Discovery is organised by interest, not by proximity, and the Service does not ask for your device's location permission. No part of the Service displays how far away another person is, because we do not have that information.
Information from third parties
- Sign-in providers: if you sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook, we receive your name, email, profile photo, and (where you have granted it) basic profile details.
- Payment platforms: the Apple App Store and Google Play handle all paid transactions. We receive only the transaction status, plan, and subscription ID — never your card details.
- Reports from other users: if another user reports you or your content, we receive the content of their report.
How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- Create and operate your account and profile.
- Publish your posts and comments and show them to other people using the Service.
- Organise Discovery by interest so your posts reach people who share those interests.
- Power core features — the photo grid, search across users, posts and topics, threaded comments, and notifications.
- Detect impersonation, fraud, spam, and policy violations.
- Recognise your device using device identifiers (the Android ID on Android, the Identifier for Vendor on iOS, and your device's User-Agent) to prevent fraud and abuse and keep your account secure.
- Send transactional notifications (likes, comments and replies on your own posts, account alerts, security warnings).
- Provide customer support and respond to your enquiries.
- Improve the Service — diagnose crashes, fix bugs, measure feature performance.
- Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our terms.
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or data brokers, and we do not use the Android ID, the IDFA, or any other device identifier for advertising or ad measurement.
Sharing of information
We share personal information only in these limited cases:
With other users
Nearo is a public community. Your username, handle, avatar, bio, interest tags, posts, and comments are visible to other people using the Service, and can be liked and replied to by them. Your email address, phone number, date of birth, and password are never shown to other users.
With service providers
We rely on third parties to operate the Service. Each one is bound by a written agreement that limits their use of data to providing the contracted service:
- Cloud hosting and storage providers
- Push notification gateways (Apple Push Notification Service, Firebase Cloud Messaging)
- Email and SMS delivery providers
- Analytics and crash reporting providers
- Content moderation tools
- Customer support tools
For legal reasons
We may disclose personal information if required by law, court order, or government request, or if necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Nearo, our users, or the public.
In corporate transactions
If we are acquired, merged, or restructured, your information may be transferred to the new entity. We will notify you before any such transfer takes effect and offer you the choice to delete your account.
Advertising and tracking
Nearo does not show third-party advertising, and we do not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.
- We do not sell or share your personal information with data brokers or advertising networks.
- We do not collect the iOS Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), and we do not use the Android Advertising ID, the Android ID, or any other device identifier for advertising or ad measurement.
- Because we do not track you across other companies' apps and websites, the iOS App Tracking Transparency permission prompt is not shown. If that ever changes, we will ask through that prompt first, we will only track after you allow it, and declining will not reduce what the app does for you.
The analytics and crash reporting we do run measure only how you use Nearo itself, so we can fix bugs and improve features — never to build an advertising profile of you.
Retention
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this Policy, or as required by law.
- Active accounts: we retain your data for as long as your account is active.
- Deleted accounts: after you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your profile data, photos, posts, and comments within a reasonable period. We may keep limited account metadata for a further period to prevent fraud and re-registration of banned users, then delete it.
- Backups: residual copies may persist in our backups for a limited period after deletion.
- Legal holds: we may retain specific data longer if law requires it (for example, transaction records for tax purposes).
Your choices
- Update your profile, avatar, and interest tags at any time from Mine → Edit profile.
- Delete any individual post or comment you have made, at any time, from the post itself.
- Manage notifications from Mine → Settings → Notifications.
- Opt out of marketing emails via the unsubscribe link in every marketing email.
- Delete your account from Mine → Settings → Delete account.
Because posts and comments are public to other people using the Service, keep in mind that anything you publish may have been seen, quoted, or saved by others before you delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your data (subject to limited legal exceptions).
- Object to or restrict certain processing (EU, UK, Brazil residents).
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing relies on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
- Opt out of any "sale" or "share" of personal information (US state residents — even though we do not sell data, you may flip the switch).
To exercise any of these rights, email service@ahzhigang.cn. We will respond within 30 days (or sooner if your local law requires).
How we protect data
We use industry-standard safeguards designed to protect your information, including:
- Encryption of personal data in transit and at rest.
- Hashed passwords — we never store your password in plain text.
- Access controls limiting employee access to personal data on a need-to-know basis.
- Regular reviews of our systems and security practices.
- Incident response procedures, and we will notify affected users of a personal data breach without undue delay and as required by applicable law.
No system is perfectly secure. You also play a role — use a strong, unique password and keep it confidential.
Children
Nearo is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has signed up, contact us at service@ahzhigang.cn and we will remove the account immediately. See also our Child Safety Policy.
International transfers
Your personal information may be stored and processed in any country where we or our service providers operate, which may be outside the country where you live. Those countries may have data-protection laws that differ from your own; wherever your information is processed, we take reasonable steps to protect it consistent with this Policy.
Updates to this Policy
If we change this Policy in a material way, we will notify you in-app at least 14 days before the change takes effect. The "Effective" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Policy.
